UITA 22 (United Indian Traders Association) Navajo Made Silver and Turquoise Cuff Bracelet

Small but mighty, excellently crafted Navajo silver cuff with turquoise. Split band with oval cabochon in the center flanked by radiant stamped overlays, and hand stamped designs along the band. It has the UITA 22 stamp from Dean Kirk's trading post.

Navajo trader Dean Kirk opened his trading post at Manuelito, New Mexico (between Gallup and the Arizona border) around January 1941. The silver work made in Dean’s shop was typically Navajo tourist type designs and hallmarked UITA22 (under the auspices of the United Indian Traders Association) until about 1951.

The UITA's stated goals were: 1) to promote improved business practices among Indian traders, arts and crafts dealers, Indians, and all related agencies; 2) to promote, encourage, and protect the manufacture and sale of genuine Indian handmade arts and crafts; and 3) to promote the general welfare of those engaged in the business of Indian trading, as well as the welfare of the Navajo Indians and all other Indians of North America.
