Effie Calavaza (b. 1928 Zuni, NM) started silversmithing in 1956. She learned the art from her husband Juan, and signed with his name JUAN C. until his death in 1970. She then started using her own signature EFFIE C.
Famous for her snakes winding around gemstones—most commonly turquoise, coral, and onyx. Snakes are an important symbol in Zuni healing and fertility rituals.

This ring has 2 rectangle turquoise stones with a snake laying between them, then wrapped arounf stones and tail curled up on side of ring.
