The Naja necklace is one of the oldest forms of jewelry made by Navajo and Pueblo silversmiths. This early example has a Naja with a Persian turquoise cabochon, and the ends of the Naja are made using an early form of repoussé, pounded into a somewhat pointed concave void in hardwood with filed lines. Upon close inspection it looks crude but has a great overall look. Persian cabochons were first imported by Lorenzo Hubble in the late 19th century. The hand made silver beads are slightly oval and have been restrung on braided wire and has traditional string wrap at the neck. Naja is 2"h x 1 3/4" wide. Weight is 56 grams.
