Navajo Arts & Crafts Guild Silver Ingot Cuff c. 1940s Size 6 5/8

$2,100.00

This cuff is a great example of pieces made by The Navajo Arts and Crafts Guild (NACG). The guild was established in 1941, formed by master silversmiths; Ambrose Roanhorse, Fred Peshlakai, and Chester Yellowhair. They were teaching their exacting traditional methods, choosing the most promising students. Only the finest pieces were selected to bear the horned sun hallmark of the Guild. The pieces went not to the usual tourist trade, as the return was not seen as profitable for this caliber of work, but to the high-end jewelry market in the East, Midwest and Southwest, such as Tiffany's, and Marshall Fields. Materials and supplies were issued only to smiths who could meet the standards and requirements for quality established by the guild, which meant no power-driven machinery or sheet silver could be used in their making. NACG pieces were characterized by their elegant look, with clean lines, and often modernist designs. Weight 54 grams
Inside length end to end: 5 1/4"
Gap between ends: 1 3/8"
Width 1/2"
